More about Phantasmal Flames Expansion

Phantasmal Flames is a small set with one very large card in it. ME2 released on 14 November 2025, the base set stops at 94 cards, and the Mega Charizard X ex Special Illustration Rare is why most people are on this page.

There are three separate Mega Charizard X ex cards in the set at three very different prices, and it pays to know which one you're buying. The Special Illustration Rare is the expensive one, there's a full art below it and a standard ex below that, and all three look much the same in a listing thumbnail. Check the collector number before you commit.

Mega Gengar ex is the other headline. The Illustration Rares are unusually strong for a set this compact, and the Meowth in particular sells for well above what a card in that slot normally does.

A small set is easier to complete and harder to pull from. With 94 cards in the base run the chase cards are concentrated, so the odds on the Charizard are worse than the set size makes them sound. Buying the single is almost always cheaper than chasing it in packs.
