Which Pokémon deck should I buy?

It depends on whether you want to play straight out of the box or build. An ex Battle Deck (Lucario ex, Houndoom ex, Melmetal ex, Ampharos ex, Iron Leaves ex, Tapu Koko ex) is a complete 60-card deck around one Pokémon ex, with a coin, damage counters, a deck box and the rules, and it is the cheapest way to learn the game. A League Battle Deck (Charizard ex, Dragapult ex, Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex, the 2022 Mew VMAX deck) is a stronger 60 cards built from a competitive list, so it holds up at a local league. Deluxe Battle Decks (Miraidon ex, Koraidon ex, Meowscarada ex, Quaquaval ex) sit between the two. The Rival Battle Decks, Marnie and Steven, are made to be played against each other, and the Mega Battle Decks (Mega Gengar ex, Mega Diancie ex) do the same for the Mega Evolution era.

Build and Battle Boxes and the Trainer's Toolkit

A Build and Battle Box is the prerelease kit for a set: four booster packs of that set plus a starter pack of cards with one of four foil promos, and in the Mega Evolution box a 40-card deck that is ready to play. It suits someone who wants to open packs and play the same evening. We list them for Destined Rivals, Perfect Order, Phantasmal Flames, Pitch Black, Chaos Rising and Mega Evolution (Mega Lucario and Mega Gardevoir). The 2025 Trainer's Toolkit is the deck-building kit instead: more than 50 Trainer and Energy cards including three ACE SPEC cards and a Fezandipiti ex, four booster packs, 65 sleeves, dice and a deck builder's guide, with no complete deck inside.

World Championships decks

The 2022 and 2024 World Championships decks are card-for-card replicas of decks played at Worlds, named for their players: Ondřej Škubal's Arceus VSTAR, Rikuto Ohashi's Palkia VSTAR, André Chiasson's Mew VMAX and Sebastian Lashmet's Urshifu VMAX from 2022, and Fernando Cifuentes, Evan Pavelski, Sakuya Ota and Jesse Parker from 2024. They print with a different card back, coloured borders and the player's signature, so they are not legal in tournaments; they are collectors' pieces and a way to study a winning list. Each comes sealed with its booklet, pin, coin and deck box.
