Here's what's inside, how the two promo pairs play, and how to think about value per pack.

Both Pikachu ex are illustrated by YOSHIROTTEN in the same glossy style, one bright and one dark. Espeon ex and Umbreon ex are both by REND, and their artwork is a matching pair: Eevee and a "30" in the sky, one by day and one by night.

Day: Pikachu ex and Espeon ex

  • Pikachu ex (Day), 190 HP: Pika-Pika Parade (one Colorless) searches your deck for any number of Basic Pokémon and puts them on your Bench. Thunderbolt does 200 and discards all Energy from Pikachu ex.
  • Espeon ex, Stage 1, 260 HP: Solar Beatdown does 30 damage for each of your Pokémon in play.

Night: Pikachu ex and Umbreon ex

  • Pikachu ex (Night), 190 HP: Zip-Zap Frenzy (one Lightning) attaches any number of Basic Energy cards from your hand to your Pokémon in any way you like. Thunder does 200 and 30 damage to Pikachu ex itself.
  • Umbreon ex, Stage 1, 270 HP: Lunatic Claw does 100, plus 140 more if your opponent's Active Pokémon already has damage counters on it.

03 · Compared

Combo to tryThe Day promos work together. Pika-Pika Parade can fill your Bench in one attack; with an Active and a full Bench of five, Espeon ex's Solar Beatdown hits for 180. On the Night side, Zip-Zap Frenzy can load Umbreon ex in one go, and Lunatic Claw reaches 240 once the Defending Pokémon has any damage on it.

04 · The extra pack

What is the Classic Collection pack?

30th Celebration includes a Classic Collection: reprints of famous cards from the game's first three decades. There are 30 of them. They turn up in ordinary 30th Celebration packs too, but the Ultra-Premium Collections are the only products with a dedicated Classic Collection pack of three. Pokémon showed these three among its launch-day examples:

Mew VMAX Classic Collection reprint card from Pokémon TCG 30th Celebration
Mew VMAX114/264 reprintClassic Collection
Lugia Classic Collection reprint card from Pokémon TCG 30th Celebration
Lugia149/147 reprintClassic Collection
Magikarp Classic Collection reprint card from Pokémon TCG 30th Celebration

In late September, the Classic Collection Lugia and Charizard were the most valuable cards in the set after the three secret Mew cards. That doesn't make the pack a guaranteed win: the other reprints rank well below them. Check what you pull against our 30th Celebration singles.

05 · Value

Is the Ultra-Premium Collection good value per pack?

Here's how the box compares with the rest of the 30th Celebration range on contents:

30th Celebration product Packs Other contents
Ultra-Premium Collection 30 (29 + 1 Classic Collection) 2 promos, playmat, sleeves, deck box, coin, dice
Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box 11 2 Nidorina promos and ETB accessories
Elite Trainer Box 9 Nidorina promo, 65 sleeves, 16 foil Energy, dice
Ditto Premium Collection 8 Ditto promo, acrylic display
Booster Bundle 6 Packs only
Figure Collection 5 Promo, oversize card, figure
1Divide the price by 30The UPC's price divided by 30 packs gives a per-pack cost that includes all the extras.
2Compare with the Booster BundleThe Booster Bundle is packs only, so its price divided by 6 is your plain per-pack benchmark.
3Put a value on the extrasIf you'd use the playmat, sleeves, coin and deck box, or want the two promos, that gap is worth paying. If not, the bundle is the cheaper way to open packs.
~1.4special illustration rares in 29 packs, on average
~5.8illustration rares
~6Classic Collection cards, including the guaranteed 3
~1 in 5chance of a Futuristic Rare

Those are averages worked out from pull rates measured over 3,000 English packs: a special illustration rare in 1 of 21 packs, an illustration rare in 1 of 5, a Classic Collection card in 1 of 10 and a Mewtwo ex or Mew ex Futuristic Rare in 1 of 120. Real boxes vary a lot either side, so treat them as a guide, not a promise.

06 · Choosing

Day or Night: which one should you buy?

Pick Day if
  • ✓You like Espeon and the bright, daytime artwork
  • ✓You want the promo pair that combos together: Pika-Pika Parade into Solar Beatdown
  • ✓You're building a fun casual deck around filling your Bench
Pick Night if
  • ✕You prefer Umbreon and the darker night-time art
  • ✕You want the harder-hitting partner: Lunatic Claw reaches 240
  • ✕You like the look of the darker Night Pikachu ex

Pack for pack they're identical, so the right answer is the one you'd rather look at. Collectors who want both promo sets will need both boxes. We list both: Day and Night.

07 · Our take

Our take on Day vs Night

Our take

Buy the one whose promos you'll keep. The 30 packs are the same in both, so the only real choice is Espeon and the day art or Umbreon and the night art.

For opening, the Ultra-Premium Collection is the most 30th Celebration you can get in one box, and the only way to a guaranteed Classic Collection pack. For pure pack value, run the sums above: if you don't want the accessories, a stack of Booster Bundles may work out cheaper.

If you play, the Day box has the more interesting promo pair. If you collect, it comes down to Espeon or Umbreon, and you probably already know which.
