More about Battle Styles Expansion

Battle Styles (SWSH5) released on 19 March 2021 and split the era in two with Single Strike and Rapid Strike, a mechanic that ran through the rest of Sword & Shield.

Collectors remember it for one card above all others. The Empoleon V Alt Art is one of the most admired illustrations of the entire era, and it commands prices that make no sense until you see it in person. Tyranitar V Alt Art is close behind, and Urshifu VMAX in both styles gave the set its competitive backbone.

Outside those few cards, Battle Styles is cheap. That's a common pattern with mid-era Sword & Shield sets: one or two illustrations carry the whole expansion while everything else can be picked up for very little, which makes it an ideal set to complete on a budget and then chase the Empoleon separately.

Singles are listed on their own in Battle Styles singles. Either side: Shining Fates and Chilling Reign.
