If one Sword & Shield set had to represent the whole era, it would be this one. Evolving Skies (SWSH7) released 27 August 2021 and produced the most valuable cards of the era by a wide margin.

Umbreon VMAX Alt Art, known universally as Moonbreon, is the card. It has been the benchmark for modern Pokémon values for years, and the rest of the Eeveelution Alt Art V line-up sits not far behind it. Rayquaza VMAX Alt Art, Sylveon VMAX Alt Art and Glaceon VMAX Alt Art all did the same thing on a smaller scale. Eight Eeveelutions in one set, drawn beautifully, at the exact moment the hobby went mainstream.

Sealed Evolving Skies is now firmly in collector territory rather than opening territory. Boxes cost several times what they did on release, and the maths on opening one has not made sense for a long time. Singles and graded copies are the practical route.
