Delta Reign prereleases start on 24 October 2026 at select Play! Pokémon stores, just under two weeks before the set comes out on 6 November. You buy a Build & Battle Box, open four Delta Reign packs, mix the best cards into a ready-made 40-card deck and play quick games with four Prize cards. Here's how it works, what's in the box, and how to get the most out of each of the four promo decks.
Looking for the cards in the set itself, the Mega ex and the new Legendary Stadiums? That's all in our Delta Reign set preview. This page is about the prerelease.

01 · Dates
When and where are Delta Reign prereleases in the UK?
Prereleases are run by local shops that are Play! Pokémon stores, not by The Pokémon Company directly, so each store picks its own days and times inside the window. The easiest way to find one is to ask your nearest games shop whether it's a Play! Pokémon store and whether it's running Delta Reign events. If the store takes bookings, book early.
02 · The format
How the Pokémon prerelease format works
| Standard | Prerelease | |
|---|---|---|
| Deck size | 60 cards | 40 cards |
| Prize cards | 6 | 4 |
| Cards you build from | Your whole collection (Standard legal) | Your Build & Battle Box |
Pokémon describes the format as quick, fun battles, and it's the friendliest event in the game. Because everyone is building from the same small pool, a new player with one box is on a level footing with someone who plays every week. Games are shorter than Standard because there are only four Prizes to take.
03 · The box
What's in the Delta Reign Build & Battle Box?

- 4 Mega Evolution: Delta Reign booster packs
- A 40-card ready-to-play deck with key cards from current and earlier expansions
- 1 of 4 foil promo cards: Masquerain, Magmortar, Enamorus or Kommo-o
The promo decides which deck you're playing. Pokémon's own preview pairs each promo with a strategy, which means two people opening boxes at the same table can end up with very different decks. The promos are numbered MEP 111 to 114, and PokeBeach reports they're alternate-art versions of cards in the set.
04 · The decks
The four Delta Reign prerelease promo decks

Masquerain: Bug Out
Masquerain's Bug Out does 50 damage for each Pokémon with the Bug Out attack among the bottom 7 cards of your deck, and it costs just one Grass Energy. Spinarak and Sizzlipede both have Bug Out too, but at three Colorless, so they're there to fill your deck rather than attack. Sacred Ash shuffles up to five Pokémon from your discard pile back into your deck, putting your bugs back where Bug Out can find them.

Magmortar: Buddy Boost
Once a turn, Magmortar's Buddy Boost attaches a Basic Fire Energy, a Basic Lightning Energy, or one of each from your hand to Electivire and Magmortar in any way you like. Pile them on Electivire: Voltaic Hammer discards any amount of Basic Energy from it and does 60 damage for each card discarded. Adventure Lantern searches out one Basic Fire and one Basic Lightning Energy to keep it going.

Enamorus: the Forces of Nature
Enamorus, Thundurus, Landorus and Tornadus share the Incarnate Solidarity Ability: with all four in play, they ignore every Colorless Energy in their attack costs. That turns Landorus's Gaia Crush into 110 damage for one Fighting Energy, and Tornadus's Corkscrew Dive (70 damage, then draw until you have six cards) into a free attack. Enamorus's Rising Heart adds 100 damage against a Pokémon ex.

Kommo-o: Beat Scales
Kommo-o plays on its own. Beat Scales looks at the top 6 cards of your deck once a turn and attaches any Basic Energy there to your Dragon Pokémon. Kommo-o's Hammer In does 170, so power it up first. Druddigon is the back-up: Beat Scales can attach any type of Basic Energy, which covers Claw Slash's three Colorless cost for 80 damage.

05 · Deck building
How to build a good prerelease deck
- ✓Add cards that draw or search: they matter more in a 40-card deck
- ✓Add a Mega ex if you pulled one and have the Energy for it
- ✓Play test a couple of hands before your first round
- ✕Don't mix in a second plan that needs different Energy
- ✕Don't go over 40 cards: the format is fixed
- ✕Don't add a single Stadium half: it can't be played alone
06 · Kit list
What to bring to a Pokémon prerelease
- Card sleeves for 40 cards, so new pulls don't get scuffed: card sleeves
- A deck box to carry your deck home: deck boxes
- Damage counters, a coin and something to mark conditions, in case your store doesn't supply them
- Toploaders or a small binder for anything good you pull
- Your Play! Pokémon player ID if the store runs it as an official event: ask when you book
07 · Missed it?
If you can't make a Delta Reign prerelease
The Build & Battle Box goes on general sale when Delta Reign releases on 6 November, so you can play the format at home with a friend: each of you opens a box and builds a 40-card deck.
08 · Our take
Which promo deck we'd want
Our take
Magmortar is the fun one. Buddy Boost into a big Voltaic Hammer is easy to understand and hits hard, which suits a format where games are short and the board stays small.
Enamorus has the highest ceiling but the hardest set-up, because it needs four specific Pokémon in play from a 40-card deck. Masquerain depends on what sits at the bottom of your deck, so it can swing either way. Kommo-o is the most self-sufficient: one Ability that keeps loading Energy, and one big attack.
Whatever you get, sleeve the promo before your first game: it's the card you'll want to keep.
