Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek is out on 13 November 2026, with prerelease events from 6 to 12 November and an MTG Arena launch on 10 November. It's a Universes Beyond set that's legal in Standard, with four Commander decks, Collector's Edition versions of each, seven actor-signed Headliner cards and all ten shock lands in an LCARS frame.
Everything below comes from Wizards of the Coast's own announcements, checked on 9 October 2026. Full card previews haven't started yet, so this is a living page: we'll add the new cards and the Commander decklists as they land.

01 · Dates
When does MTG Star Trek come out in the UK?
The global tabletop release is Friday 13 November 2026, so that's the UK date too. Prereleases run from 6 to 12 November at Wizards Play Network (WPN) stores, and WPN stores can start selling the whole range during prerelease week under Wizards' early-access rules. MTG Arena gets the set first, on 10 November.
02 · The set
What is Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek?

It's a Universes Beyond set built for Star Trek's 60th anniversary, pulling characters, starships and moments from every era of the franchise. Wizards' own line is that it was "designed by Star Trek fans, for Star Trek fans".
There are three set codes to know. TRK is the main set and it's legal in every format, Standard included. TRC is the Commander deck cards and SDS is the stardates reprints; those two are legal in Commander, Legacy and Vintage, plus anywhere a card is already legal from an earlier printing. Stardates cards opened from Play Boosters can be used in Star Trek Draft and Sealed.

Two other products are worth knowing about. Five Welcome Decks (one 40-card deck per colour, with cards from TRK and TRC) are going to participating WPN stores as a learn-to-play tool. The Beginner Box was cancelled on 21 September because of production and shipping delays, so it won't be coming. If you're brand new, our how to play Magic: The Gathering guide covers the basics.
04 · Commander
The four Star Trek Commander decks
Four three-colour precons, each themed on a different corner of Star Trek. The colours and the two-line pitch below are printed on Wizards' own deck boxes.

| Deck | Colours | Reported face commander |
|---|---|---|
| Federation Fleet | Blue, red, white | Captain Jean-Luc Picard (reported) |
| Landing Party | Green, white, blue | Spock (reported) |
| Klingon Fury | Red, white, black | Worf (reported) |
| We Are the Borg | White, blue, black | The Borg Queen (reported) |
Wizards hasn't published the decklists or the face commander cards yet. The commanders in the table are as reported by CBR from the deck boxes, which show Picard, Spock, a Klingon warrior and the Borg Queen. We'll confirm them when Wizards reveals the lists.
Every deck has a traditional foil face commander with borderless art, 99 non-foil cards (32 of them new to Magic), 10 double-sided tokens and a deck box. The Collector's Edition versions have the same lists, but every card is surge foil, including the commander, and the tokens are surge foil on one side.

05 · Chase cards
Star Trek chase cards: Headliners, stardates and LCARS
Signed Headliner cards
This is the headline. There are seven Headliner cards, each depicting a character and hand-signed by the actor who played them, then randomly inserted into Collector Boosters. Wizards says there are about 250 copies of each. They can turn up in Collector Boosters of any language, but the card itself is always English. Wizards has shown Captain James T. Kirk and Captain Kathryn Janeway so far, and its product page also names Spock.

Headliners play exactly like the normal versions of each card. Kirk's is numbered 1701, like the Enterprise.
Stardates cards
Stardates are 30 reprints of known Magic cards with Star Trek art and names. Wizards' example is Sheoldred, the Apocalypse as "Khan, Engineered Evil", the Kelvin timeline Khan. Non-foil stardates turn up in Play Boosters (in 1 of every 25, one replaces a common) and Collector Boosters; the traditional foil versions are Collector Booster only.

LCARS frames and LCARS shock lands
LCARS is the Enterprise's computer interface, and 29 cards get an LCARS frame. More importantly for players, all ten shock lands are in the set, with LCARS versions showing alien planets. Non-foil and traditional foil LCARS cards come in Play and Collector Boosters; surge foil versions are Collector Booster only.

Classic Enterprise, scene cards and Beam Me Up promos
Classic Enterprise cards (24 of them) use painterly art inspired by vintage Star Trek cinema posters. Scene cards are borderless and join up across several cards: 25 of them across four scenes in Play and Collector Boosters, plus two Scene Boxes with six new foil scene cards each. And every Beam Me Up Bundle has 2 of 8 foil Spacecraft promos drawn as ship schematics.

06 · Mechanics
New mechanics in MTG Star Trek
Wizards has confirmed four mechanics so far. We'll add the rest when the release notes come out.
- Assimilate: you gain control of a creature, or put a creature card onto the battlefield under your control, with a +1/+1 counter. It becomes a Borg artifact creature and loses its other creature types.
- Face a dilemma: you face a dilemma whenever you choose one or more modes for a spell or ability. Some cards reward you for it.
- Federation: an ability word for effects that count the creature types among your non-Borg creatures.
- Spacecraft and station: back from Edge of Eternities. Spacecraft start as artifacts; tap your other creatures to put charge counters on them and they gain abilities and, eventually, become creatures.

Images: Wizards of the Coast
The Borg Queen assimilates a creature card from your opponent's graveyard when she enters. Seven of Nine draws you a card every time you face a dilemma, which makes modal spells like Set Phasers to . . . (stun, or 3 damage to an attacker) do double duty. Hoshi Sato digs deeper the more creature types you have. The Enterprise-D needs 7 charge counters to become a 4/5 flier with vigilance, and exiles a card you can play each turn you charge it.
07 · Reveals
More Star Trek cards revealed so far
Wizards' first look also showed the main-set versions of the two captains and a board wipe that fans of The Next Generation will recognise.

Images: Wizards of the Coast
- Captain James T. Kirk (red, 3 mana, 2/2): when he enters or attacks, you choose one of loot, make a 1/1 Officer or give your team +1/+0. With no cards in hand you can choose any number of them.
- Captain Kathryn Janeway (green, 4 mana, 2/3): an extra land drop each turn, and every creature you play explores.
- Crystalline Entity (8 mana, 7/7 flier): if you cast it, it destroys every nonartifact creature. Being an artifact itself, it survives.

09 · Our take
Is MTG Star Trek worth it?
Our take
For players, the shock lands are the story. All ten in one Standard-legal set, with an LCARS version on top, means Play Boosters will have real value in them, and the Spacecraft returning from Edge of Eternities gives Limited a clear identity.
For collectors, it's the signed Headliners. About 250 copies of each, spread across every language worldwide, makes them genuinely scarce, and the rest of the Booster Fun (stardates, Classic Enterprise, scene cards) looks strong. The catch is the odds: with so few signed copies, most Collector Boosters won't have one.
If you're a Trek fan who mostly plays Commander, the precons are the obvious start, especially once the decklists confirm the face commanders.
- ✓You play Standard or Pioneer and want the shock lands in a new frame
- ✓You're a Commander player: four three-colour precons, each with 32 new cards
- ✓You collect Star Trek memorabilia: signed cards from the actors themselves
- ✕You want a specific Headliner: at about 250 copies each, buying the single will be cheaper than opening for it
- ✕You're new to Magic and wanted the Beginner Box: it's cancelled, so look at Welcome Decks or a Commander deck
Catch up on other crossovers in our Universes Beyond range, or browse Play Booster boxes, Collector Booster boxes and Scene Boxes. Every Magic set we cover is on our Magic: The Gathering sets page.
